Why does it matter so much?
Over time and use, engine oil breaks down and picks up dirt, metal particles and combustion residue. Worn oil loses its lubricating and protective properties, which leads to early wear of engine components, overheating and eventually expensive failures.
How often
How often you need an oil change depends on several things: the type of oil (conventional, semi-synthetic, synthetic), your vehicle, how you drive and the weather. As a general rule, an oil change every 5,000 to 10,000 km or every 6 to 12 months is recommended.
